The University of the Third Age was established for elderly men and women who are in retirement, to pursue learning for pleasure. The University was found four years ago in Volyn and it is the only establishment of such kind in Ukraine.

There are no academic requirements for membership, no examinations, certificates or degrees. But instead the members have a chance to obtain the new knowledge and to remember the sciences they used to know in the past and get acquainted with the new achievements of the modern generation.

At the current moment there are more than 100 attendees on the five departments (medical, social science and law, artistic, alternative medicine, physical rehabilitation). The youngest member of the University is 57 years old and the eldest one is 85 years old.

The members attend classes three times a week. Teachers and office stuff are not paid for their work. All staff and tutors are volunteers.

It is not the university in the modern sense of a body which awards degrees, but in the original sense of a community of people engaged in learning from each other.
